And so began an investigation that would change my career forever.
What I discovered with those patients in the months that followed was so incredible...
I wound up doing a presentation on it for the American Heart Association. [6]

And it landed me on talk shows across the country —
including Dr. Oz and The Doctors.

it caused me to leave my prestigious heart surgery career...
and devote my life to nutrition.
Let me show you what I found out...
how it changed my patients’ lives and mine....

First, I’ll start with how we did the experiment.
That way, you can be confident in the discovery that followed.
The first step was a total medical assessment —
complete with blood work and everything.
I wrote down the assessment results —
along with what they’d been eating at the time.
Then, over the next several months...
I had them remove and reintroduce various foods in their diets.
And I re-tested the patients to see how those foods affected them.
What I discovered was disturbing...
After months of testing... I’d compiled a diverse list of “problem foods”...
ALL of which were supposed to be healthy.
Yet, any time people ate them...
➣ Their digestion suffered
➣ They started gaining weight
➣ Unhealthy markers started rising in their blood work
➣ They felt “foggy” and worn down
➣ They started feeling stiff throughout their bodies
It was like clockwork.
Same symptoms every single time.
The craziest part?
The biggest problem foods were things you might be eating now:
tomatoes
beans
peanuts
squash
wheat bread
soy
chicken
and milk

Now, at first glance,
these eight foods didn’t seem to have much in common.
They didn’t all have carbs or sugar.
Nor did they all have fat, gluten, or any of the other popular “bad guys” of nutrition...
Yet they were all triggering the exact same symptoms.
So, what was the common link?
The results were SO consistent...
there had to be some “hidden ingredient” all eight foods shared...
An ingredient that causes damage inside your body.
So, I started studying the foods one-by-one —
to find out what that ingredient might be.
For weeks, I couldn’t figure it out...
Then one morning,
I finally stumbled upon a possible smoking gun...
It was a startling report that had just been published in the British Medical Journal. [7]
The report opened with the story of a mass food poisoning —
which happened at a British hospital back in 1988.
The hospital was holding its first “healthy eating day” for the staff.
As part of the occasion,
a collection of doctor-approved healthy dishes were being served in the employee cafeteria.
Unfortunately, something went terribly wrong...
Within hours of eating the “healthy” food,
multiple hospital staffers had fallen so ill...
...they wound up being admitted to the hospital as patients!
The hospital administrators promptly investigated the incident.
At first,
they suspected some of the cafeteria food might have gotten contaminated —
and caused food poisoning.
However,
when they tested the food,
it all came back clean.
So, what had made the staffers so sick?
Well, after investigating further...
they determined the culprit was actually beans —
one of the problem foods I identified with my patients!
The investigators discovered the beans in one of the “healthy” dishes weren’t fully cooked. [8]
Why would that make people sick?
Well, as it turns out, undercooked beans are actually toxic. [9]
They’re loaded with a nasty protein called PHA.
PHA is a powerful lectin —
a type of compound plants use to defend themselves from being eaten. [10]
In nature, lectins like PHA are designed
to paralyze swarms of bugs that would otherwise devour the whole plant. [11][12]
Bugs aren’t the only ones these compounds can affect, though...
The PHA lectin in beans is also powerful enough
to trigger a bad digestive reaction in humans. [13]
That’s why you have to cook beans thoroughly —
to weaken the PHA in them. [14]
If you don’t, you get sick —
just like those staffers at the British hospital.
As eye-opening as this info on beans is, though...
you want to know something even crazier?
Beans aren’t the only foods that
have dangerous lectins like PHA.
As I said earlier,
the hospital story was part of a report in the British Medical Journal.
And this report went on to list other examples
of lectin-rich foods besides beans.
They included tomatoes,
whole wheat,
peanuts,
and soy. [15]
Now this stopped me in my tracks...
...because the report was describing
FIVE of the eight problem foods I discovered with my patients!
Could this be the common link I was looking for?
The report suggested these lectin-rich foods
could be causing a lot of unexplained health problems all over the world. [16]
The report’s author —
a renowned British Allergist named Dr. David L. J. Freed —
explained that it was common to be at least mildly allergic to lectins... [17]
He then proposed that eating lectin-rich foods
could be setting off unnoticed reactions in people’s bodies.
And those reactions could be snowballing
into bigger health issues...
...such as digestive problems,
immune problems,
blood sugar problems,
and more. [18]
And yet lectins were being overlooked...
because few people in the health world knew much about them...
And most of the lectin-containing foods sounded healthy.
When I read this... all I could think was, “Wow…”
Everything I’d seen with my patients was suddenly starting to make sense.
And if Dr. Freed’s suspicions about lectins were right...
This could be the key to fixing a wide variety of health problems —
possibly for countless people across the country.
Not to mention...
it could turn popular wisdom about healthy eating on its head!
The only way to know for sure...
was to investigate.
So, I started talking to food allergists —
and I began digging into all the science available on lectins.
And little-by-little...
I began to piece together the whole picture of what lectins do inside your body.
Let me show you right now what I uncovered...
Because, if you’re serious about having a healthier, leaner body...
The following information is CRUCIAL for helping you get there.
And you’re not likely to hear it anywhere else right now.
I’m about to show you exactly what lectins do inside you any time you eat them.
Now,
I mentioned earlier how lectins are used by plants to defend themselves.
Well, certain plants evolved especially powerful “super lectins” over millions of years.
You could almost think of these lectins like built-in pesticides. [19]
When a bug bites into one of these “super-lectin” plants... that bug gets paralyzed and falls off the plant.
Obviously, humans are much larger than bugs...
so the lectins aren’t strong enough to paralyze us!
However,
eating them regularly can still hurt us in sneakier ways...
You see, the biggest problem with lectins is that our bodies haven’t evolved to handle them properly. [20]
That’s because most “super-lectin” plants are big agriculture crops like nightshades, grains, and legumes...
And these were things we didn’t really eat before the Dawn of Agriculture —
which was only about 10,000 years ago. [21]
Science shows that’s only about a third of the time
we’d need to evolve a tolerance for lectins. [22][23][24]
So, as it stands right now,
our bodies are still reacting badly to them.
Here’s what happens:
When you ingest these toxic little plant proteins...
your body doesn’t recognize them.
And it treats them like hostile foreign invaders... [25][26][27]
Your internal defense systems start attacking the lectins at every opportunity.
And that’s where we REALLY run into trouble... [28][29][30]
You see, these lectins are known as “sticky” proteins...
because they like to latch onto things...
And that includes certain tissues inside your body.
So, when your system attacks the lectins...
it winds up hurting the tissues they’re stuck to as well! [31][32][33]
As you might imagine,
this can cause a lot of internal problems.
For instance, when the lectins attach to your gut wall,
you can get digestive problems...
When they attach to your artery walls,
your heart health can suffer...
When they collect in your joints, you can start feeling stiff...
The list goes on... [34][35][36]
This is why eating lectin-rich foods is bad.
And yet, as Americans, we're gorging on them every day.
In fact, since they’re in all the biggest agriculture crops...
most people eat them at literally every meal!
And what’s more...
much of the meat, dairy, and eggs we eat contain lectins, too...
That’s because the animals these products come from are typically fed cheap, high-lectin feed.
They eat tons of lectins, and then we eat them![37]
So, because of this onslaught of lectin-rich foods...
many people's bodies are going haywire.
They're gaining weight, developing food sensitivities...
even aging before their time. [38]
The worst part is...
most nutritionists have grossly overlooked this problem!
They're so focused on how many carbs,
how much fat, total calorie count...
And they're missing the real smoking gun that's messing up the health of millions.
That’s why so many diets don’t work...
because the people on them are still eating lectins.
Once I understood just how damaging lectins were...
I began to research all the lectin-rich foods I could find.
It took me almost a month, but I compiled a thorough list.
The main offenders included nightshade foods like tomatoes, peppers, and potatoes...
grains like wheat, corn, oats, and rye...
legumes like beans, peanuts, and soy...
and seedy fruits like squash and cucumbers.
Once I was confident the list was complete,
I had my patients mercilessly cut all these foods from their diet...
I also had them cut factory-farmed dairy and meats...
because it turned out the animals those products came from were usually fed high-lectin feed —
and the lectins showed up in the resulting food.
The high-lectin foods were replaced with low-lectin foods —
like dark, green, leafy vegetables...
flavorful nuts and olives...
fresh avocados...
local, in-season berries...
and pastured meats and dairy.
NOTE: I’m NOT about to tell you you have to go to the extremes my patients did — and cut out all lectin-rich foods...
You see, I later uncovered a much simpler solution to the lectin problem...
It’s something you can easily add to your diet...
that “neutralizes” the lectins on contact!

First, though,
it’s important you discover what happens when lectins are removed from your body!
You see, within just a few weeks of cutting out lectins...
the changes in my patients were obvious.
Many started to lose weight rapidly.
They also felt much better.
They weren’t hungry or worn down anymore.
Their digestion smoothed out —
with more regular bathroom habits.
They had more energy.
They reported feeling more clear-headed.
Many also began to move much better because their joints were no longer stiff.
Everyone’s blood work came back noticeably healthier as well.

Well, certain compounds are “stickier” to lectins than anything else.
